BeatKing, the Houston-based rapper known for his track "Thick," has passed away at the age of 39 due to a pulmonary embolism.

Houston rapper BeatKing, celebrated for his viral 2010 hit "Crush" and the platinum-selling DJ Chose track "Thick," has passed away at the age of 39. Known as Club Godzilla, his death was confirmed by his manager, Tasha Felder, via her unverified Instagram account on Thursday.


In her post, Felder wrote, "BeatKing has been the heart of the club scene for over a decade. His influence through his collaborations and productions will endure. He cherished his daughters @clubgodparenting, his music, and his fans. We will always love him."


Felder later confirmed to USA TODAY via email on Friday that BeatKing died from a pulmonary embolism.

"He was at an Urban One (Radio One) station for a morning takeover when he suddenly fainted," Felder wrote. "He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later passed away. His daughters were with him throughout. It's truly heartbreaking; we loved him dearly."


Houston rapper BeatKing, also known as Club Godzilla, best known for hits like "Thick" and "Crush," has died at 39 from a pulmonary embolism. 


BeatKing gained prominence with his summer 2010 release "Crush" from the album "Kings of the Club," which came out in 2011. DJ Chose's "Thick," released in July 2020, was later remixed by fellow Houston artist Megan Thee Stallion.

The rapper was also recognized for his work on the 2020 track "Then Leave" with Queendom Come and the 2022 single "Toot That" by Erica Banks, featuring DreamDoll.
